Google Review Calculator

Star Rating Calculator

Use this free google review calculator to find how many additional 5-star reviews you need to obtain your desired star rating.

The calculation works by first determining the total sum of your current review scores (current rating × current number of reviews). Then, the formula calculates how many additional 5-star reviews are needed to increase this sum enough to achieve the desired average rating, factoring in the weight of each new 5-star review. The result is rounded up to ensure the target is met.

Most platforms (including Google) round up to the nearest tenth. For example, if you have a 4.9 star rating and generate enough additional 5-star reviews to average a 4.95 star rating, platforms will generally round up and display a star rating of 5.0 on your business profile.

The calculator automatically takes this into consideration.

Why It Matters

The importance of star rating

Negative Google reviews can quickly damage a business’s reputation by creating doubt in the minds of potential customers. Many people rely on reviews when deciding who to trust, and just a few bad ones can lead them to choose a competitor instead. In addition to harming trust, negative reviews can also affect your local SEO rankings—Google considers review qualityquantity, and sentiment when determining which businesses appear in local search results. Over time, unresolved negative feedback can push your business lower in the rankings and reduce visibility to new customers.

Google attempts to show the “best” local businesses in search results, meaning that they will generally show the businesses with the highest review count and star rating (among other factors of course). Businesses that have a higher star rating and a review count are likely to receive more visibility in search results. For example, if your top competitors in local search all have 4.9+ star rating and you have a 4.5, then you may want to consider generating more positive reviews to your business profile. Also, you can send your Google review link to prompt a review.

To negate a 1-star review, generally 10 to 20 new 5-star reviews are needed depending on your current star rating and total number of Google reviews. You can use the calculator above to better understand how many additional reviews you will need to obtain your target star rating.
